PROJECT:
See Better Lear
DESCRIPTION:
I teamed up as dramaturg with Keely Song Glenn, artistic director of Contemporary Dance Theater, to create a contemporary dance concert about King Lear. As a pair, we created a dramatic conceit that combined the setting of a college Shakespeare club, the plot of King Lear, and about a dozen contemporary dances. We wrote the script, arranged the dances, coached the actors, filled the lobby with educational posters about Shakespeare, and passed out marked up copies of Lear to audience members as if they were part of the book club.

PROJECT:
The Conversation Around Conservation
DESCRIPTION:
I served as dramaturg for Words for Water, a concert at Brigham Young University that featured works by student creative writers and dancers. This project about Utah’s water systems involved five different departments on campus, including five faculty, nine choreographers, nine writers, and 27 dancers. Each choreographer was paired with a creative writing student and charged with creating an original dance about water that incorporated writing in some way. My dramaturgical work focused on researching the intersections between writing and movement, facilitating the collaboration between writers and choreographers, and educating audiences through program information and lobby displays about Utah’s water crisis.

Fourth Wall Dramaturgy

My dramaturgy for Brigham Young University’s MainStage production of Fiddler on the Roof involved me writing online content and investigating the parallels between the religious cultures of Anatevka, Ukraine and Provo, Utah.
REVIEWS
I was the editor-in-chief of Inscape Journal while Thomas worked on our staff. Thomas went above and beyond in his work. Even though he was a volunteer and had no hour requirements for credit, Thomas signed up for extra projects to get more experience. He was always fun to work with and was responsive and dependable.
